Lighted Window Early Learning Center’s infant and toddler program offers a quality program with lower-than-state ratio requirements that encourages early learning by incorporating the best ideas from a variety of early childhood educational practices and philosophies. It is from this knowledge and understanding of what is best for engaging children in learning through play that we create an environment and curriculum that actively involves the whole child and fosters the developmental domains.

Our infant classroom is designed and developed to meet the needs of our youngest LW ELC children in a warm, safe, and clean environment. Two areas divide our space, one space for our non-mobile Koalas and another for our mobile Koalas. Primary caregiving allows a teacher to care for three children per day to meet their needs and document every aspect of the day for the parents. Of course, all Koala staff members work together to create a loving space.

Our toddler classroom is designed to fit the needs of our walkers to 30 months of age by providing a wide open space to explore. We have lots of sensory manipulatives and imaginary play items to encourage social development. The Turtles learn self-help skills by being supported by the teachers throughout their daily activities. The toddlers are like little sponges soaking up the environment around them. Social interactions help them learn the basics of taking turns, being kind, and group activities.

LW ELC’s Infant and Toddler program acknowledges the importance of attachment, play, and individual needs for infants. Careful attention has been paid to the design of the infant classroom environment and program curriculum to promote cognitive, sensory-motor, and brain development. The interactive environment provides children with many sensory-motor-based experiences that are stimulating, challenging, open-ended, child-initiated, and child-directed.

LW ELC’s Infant and Toddler Program believes that children learn through their senses and by doing. Infants and toddlers need to actively explore and manipulate their environment. They acquire knowledge of the world through sensory-motor experiences, otherwise known as play.

LW ELC’s Infant and Toddler Program responds attentively to each child’s individual needs. The caregivers connect with and understand each child. The goal is for parents and staff to support each other to enhance the physical, emotional, and cognitive development of each child. This program is designed for bonding, playing, learning, growing, and developing language.
